Patent #
4,884,792 for my design of a locking self adjusting cam operated
clamp. QUOTE: "Aeroplanes are not designed by science, but by art in spite of some pretense and humbug to the contrary. I do not mean to suggest that engineering can do without science, on the contrary, it stands on scientific foundations, but there is a big gap between scientific research and the engineering product, which has to be bridged by the art of the engineer." -- Anonymous. High speed (up to 1000 cartons per minute) electric motor driven folding carton loading and closing machine, showing computer control flow chart, designed by Roy Rendahl using Anvil CAD while working at ADCO Mfg in California. by Roy Rendahl while working at Lake Center Industries in Minnesota. |
Layout of a time study sketch for a Special Top Flap
Tucker machine station that closes the leading and
trailing flaps on a three-pack milk / OJ type carton
sleeve as it goes past the tucking station.
Each mechanism, designed by Roy Rendahl,
uses two counter-rotating offset pivots, the top one
rotating at twice the speed of the bottom one and
moving with a bearing in a slot on the actuator arm.
I refer to my mechanism as the "Crazy Kicking Feet"
because that's what it looks like when running,
but it worked and the customer was so happy with it
that they ordered another complete machine
from ADCO Mfg.

Roy co-developed "Pet Perks®
The Pet Food Seasoning" with his brother,
Dave. Roy designed the package label,
displays, and manufacturing process.
Shown here is the hand filling station
which dispenses a measured amount
of product to each bottle, designed and built
by Roy Rendahl.Roy also designed and built a labeling jig
to efficiently and accurately place the
peel-and-stick labels on the bottles.
Embossing Press for producing three
dimensional fine art work. Similar to a
wine press, it was designed and built with
bolted together 2x4s and 3/4" plywood
by Roy Rendahl.
